Visiting Professor from Xihua University, China
Dr. Zhihong Xu, an associate professor in natural product chemistry in the Department of Chemistry, Xihua University, Chengdu, China, joined the Department of Environmental Sciences at the end of November 2015 and will be at the Faculty of Agriculture for a year as a visiting professor. The one year placement is funded by the China Scholarship Council.
Dr. Xu鈥檚 research focus is on extraction, separation, structure characterization of natural compounds present in medicinal plants. At聽 the Faculty of Agriculture, Dr. Xu is working with Dr. Vasantha Rupasinghe in investigating 鈥済reen technologies鈥 for isolation of biologically-active phytochemicals from selected medicinal plants grown in Atlantic Canada for screening against chronic diseases including various cancers.
Dr. Zhihong Xu, a visiting professor from Xihua University, Chengdu, China is investigating cancer-fighting phytochemicals of medicinal plants in Dr. Rupasinghe鈥檚 laboratory at the Faculty of Agriculture.
