Dal Health shines at the 2018 Legacy Awards

The theme of Â鶹Éç’s 2018 Legacy Awards is ‘Making Waves,’ — and with good reason.Ìý The awards recognize and celebrate those who inspire others and make a significant difference to the Dal community every day.

The Faculty of Health was well represented among this year’s recipients, including faculty members who received two new awards:

• Dr. Marsha Campbell-Yeo (School of Nursing) received The President’s Research Excellence Emerging Investigator Award, recognizing the achievements of a Â鶹Éç faculty member at the early stages of their career.ÌýHer work on neonatal health has received both national and international recognition forÌýimproving the healthÌýof this vulnerable population.Ìý
• Dr. Ingrid Waldron (School of Nursing) received The President’s Research Excellence Research Impact Award, recognizing the achievements of a Â鶹Éç faculty member who has made a significant impact in their field of research.ÌýDr. Waldron’s research on the health effects ofÌýenvironmentalÌýracismÌýis already having an impactÌýin our African Nova Scotian and Indigenous communities.

Two students were also among the award winners including:

• Madeleine McKay (Health and Human Performance andÌýHealthy Populations Institute student research scholar) and Phillip Joy (PhD in Health) who received the President’s Graduate Student Teaching Award. This award recognizes a graduate student instructor who provides exceptional student learning experiences, and demonstrates a commitment to their own professional development.

The Legacy Awards are comprised of over 20 awards from across the university selected based on their alignment with Â鶹Éç’s Strategic Priorities. They were introduced this year as part of the university’s 200^th anniversary celebrations. The ceremony took place on June 20 at the Â鶹Éç Arts Centre.

We would also like to congratulateÌýDr. Christine Chambers, a recent Nursing cross-appointee, for receivingÌýThe President’s Research Excellence Research Impact ÌýAward.
