Student presentations include:
Madeline Shivgulam presenting: Characterizing Posture in Long-Term Care & the Relation of Habitual Postures with Frailty
Madeline聽Shivgulam is a PhD in Health student at 麻豆社. Based at the Centre de formation m茅dicale du Nouveau-Brunswick in Moncton & Geriatric Medicine Research Unit in Halifax, her work focuses on geriatric populations, with a particular emphasis on how lifestyle behaviors, particularly physical activity and exercise interventions influence health-related outcomes in both clinical and community settings. Ms. Shivgulam aims to identify effective strategies to promote healthy aging, enhance mobility, and improve the overall quality of life for older adults across levels of care. By examining components such as physical activity, sedentary behavior, and frailty, she seeks to develop evidence-based interventions that can be integrated into healthcare and public health initiatives. Her work strives to achieve improved long-term health outcomes while reducing the burden of age-related decline on individuals and healthcare systems. (Supervisor: Dr. Olga Theou)
Ellie d鈥橢ntremont, Sophie Nicholson, Michel-Etienne Petitpas, Alyssa Walsh will be presenting: Humble Pie Anyone? How is Cultural Humility Described in Health Equity Frameworks. A Scoping Review
Ellie d鈥橢ntremont, Sophie Nicholson, Michel-Etienne Petitpas and Alyssa Walsh are MScPT students. Their research explores how cultural humility is defined and applied to health equity frameworks described in health literature and relates the themes and findings to inform physiotherapy practice. Their research poster won them the "People's Choice Award" during the recent NSPA Forum. (Supervisor, Dr. Marie Earl).
Meg Hannigan will present: The Role of Pain Sensitization and Muscle Function in Knee Osteoarthritis Mechanics
Meg Hannigan is a MScRR graduate student and researcher with a background in biomechanical engineering. Her work investigates the relation between pain sensitization and muscle function in individuals with knee osteoarthritis, including quantitative sensory testing, gait biomechanics, and muscular ultrasound measures. She hopes to use her graduate research as a foundation for a career in the development of improved medical devices and care programs for the aging population. (Supervisor: Dr. Rebecca Moyer)
