SO鈥慚aD student conference, Mar 30

Sustainable Ocean Management and Development Conference (SO-MaD)
March 30-31, 2012, 麻豆社

Students of the 聽at 麻豆社, and WWF聽Canada, invite you to attend the SO-MaD student conference. A specific聽focus of the conference will be on the role universities,聽environmental NGOs and the Government of Canada should have in聽supporting the delivery of political commitments underpinning the聽RIO+20 vision for healthy oceans and related economies, in addition to聽addressing new and emerging challenges. The conference will take place聽over two days:

Friday, March 30, 5:30pm鈥�9:00pm 鈥� Scotiabank Auditorium, Marion McCain Arts and聽Social Science Building, 6135 University Ave, Halifax

Starting with a poster session and reception, followed by the聽announcements of the 2012-2013 scholarship recipients made possible by聽the Sobey Fund for Oceans. Ms. Maria Teresa Mesquita Pessoa (Minister聽Plenipotentiary of Brazil to the United Nations), will provide the聽opening keynote address followed by a media panel of Ziya Tong聽(Daily Planet), Todd Battis (CTV National News) and Rob North (CBC聽Radio).

Saturday, March 31, 聽9:00am 鈥� 5:00pm 鈥撀燫oom 224, Student Union Building, 6136聽University Avenue, Halifax

The conference continues with a聽series of student presentations addressing ocean management through聽social-economics, science and governance themes. Participants will develop a student statement relevant to the RIO+20 conference goals and objectives, to be disseminated in Brazil in聽June 2012.

The Conference is free, but registration is required.
