Sharing The Road In Your Community

Communities across Nova Scotia have great examples of infrastructure designed for safe road sharing.

In 2025, the DalTRAC team set out to find the best street in Halifax that demonstrates safe road sharing. Through Social Media, road users were persuaded to find and share the best Halifax streets that promote road safety for all users. The top results are as follows:

1st Place

Ìý

Barrington Street, Submitted by Ben MacLeod.

Barrington Street challenges the assumptions that roads are only for cars. The street has a full-time transit priority lane and provides good separation between motor vehicle traffic and active transportation users. The photo was taken during the Kidical Mass bike ride in 2024. Kidical Mass Halifax has organized regular events for children since 2022.

2nd Place
Ìý

Maynard Street, submitted by Alexis De Laronde

At the corner of Maynard Street in the North End, sidewalks, bike paths, and a crosswalk help encourage all types of mobility.

3rd Place
Ìý

Robie Street, submitted by Anya Chin

This street prioritizes many different methods of transportation with a dedicated bus lane, sidewalks, and vehicle lane.

Nova Scotian Active Transportation

With a growing intrest in active transportation across Nova Scotia, municipalities are investing in active transportation infrastructure. Resources from these municipalities provide information on whats being built where, and how you can use it.
